EMERGENCY DISPATCH CENTER
The Dispatch Center is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The dispatchers answer all 911 phone calls for the town of
Bedford. In addition, they answer the business telephones for
the police and fire departments. They are responsible for
dispatching police, fire, ambulance and highway units as
needed. The Dispatch Center falls under the command of a police
lieutenant.
WHY AM I ASKED SO MANY QUESTIONS?
When you call, you may think that the dispatchers are asking you a lot of questions, but they need to know this information to pass on to responding units. Some of the questions they normally ask are: your name, address, phone number, what happened, the location, when it happened, is anyone hurt, any weapons involved, descriptions on suspects or vehicles involved. The information you provide the dispatcher can speed up the units response in finding your house or apprehending the suspect(s) or even saving a life.
HOW CAN YOU HELP THE DISPATCHER
We would like you to know that at times the Dispatch Center can get very busy, especially during snowstorms or severe weather conditions, etc. During these types of weather conditions we get extremely busy, and we ask your help in not calling the dispatchers asking when power will be restored, or when your road will be plowed, or about weather conditions, etc.
Please contact Public Service Company (1-800-662-7764) regarding power outages, etc.. The Bedford Highway Department (472-3070) can answer your questions regarding street plowing. NH State Police has a Statewide Road Conditions phone number that gives updates on travel conditions. In NH, call 511.
This will allow the dispatchers to spend their
time tending to other priority matters that may arise during these times. Thank
you, we appreciate your cooperation.
